Explore the ancient Chinese capital of Luoyang, birthplace of Kung Fu and Chinese Buddhism. Visit Shaolin Temple and experience the real Kung Fu before getting lost in the Pagoda Forest, the resting place of nearly 300 famous monks. You’ll also visit the White Horse Temple, birthplace of Chinese Buddhism, and the UNESCO protected Grottoes, which have more than 100,000 images of the Buddha. Then move on to Xi’an, where you’ll visit China’s most famous site – the Terra Cotta Warriors – as well as a Tang-dynasty bathhouse, a Neolithic museum, the Wild Goose Pagoda, and the old Muslim Quarters, which are now renown for their abundance of delicious Xi’an snacks. Wrap up your tour by cycling on the ancient city wall and taking in a bird’s eye view of the ancient capital of Xi’an.

Start your journey on a soft sleeper train from Beijing to Luoyang, where you’ll be picked up by your driver and guide. After breakfast, you’ll head to Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Chinese Kung Fu, which was founded in the year 495 AD in honor of an Indian Monk called Bodhidharma. Also known as Da Mo in Chinese, he was the founder of the Mahayana sect of Buddhism, also known as Chinese Zen.

After visiting the temple, you’ll wander through a beautiful Pagoda Forest, made up of the tombs of eminent monks from the temple. There are more than 240 stupas of various sizes and architectural styles from several eras of Chinese history.

After a small hike, you’ll visit the Damo Cave, where the Buddha meditated for three years, and watch an authentic Kung Fu performance and enjoy a Buddhist meal (optional).

You’ll then head back to Luoyang where you’ll visit the White Horse Temple, a tranquil temple covered with ancient green trees, which is considered the originating court of Chinese Buddhism. After dinner, you’ll be free to take a casual walk around the Peony Square and enjoy Luoyang’s stunning night view.

The next morning you’ll head to the UNESCO Heritage Grottoes,which span over 1,000 meters along the Yi River. Today there are still more than 2,345 caves housing more than 100,000 images of the Buddha, ranging from 2cm to more than 17 meters.

After the grottoes, you’ll head to the Luoyang City Museum, where you’ll explore it’s crucial role in Chinese history, serving as the capital to Xia, China’s first dynasty, and Tang, China’s most prolific dynasty, famous worldwide for the Silk Route. From there, you will transfer via train to Xi’an.

In Xi’an you’ll visit the Terra Cotta Warriors, a collection of more than 7,000 stone warriors built more than 2,000 years ago to protect the tomb of the Emperor Qin Shihuang in the afterlife.

After visiting this historical site, we’ll drop by the Huaqing Hot Springs, a famous bath place of the Tang Dynasty emperor and Empress.

After a delightful local meal, you’ll visit the Banpo Museum, which houses a trove of Neolithic treasures before visiting the Wild Goose Pagoda and heading to the old Muslim Quarters, an area renown for its local Xi’an snack foods.

The next day, we’ll wake up early and take a casual bike ride around the Ancient City Wall. The afternoon is filled with free activities before taking the train back to Beijing.
