Xitang is an ancient water city located just outside of Shanghai, and is home to stunning southern architecture, quiet alleyways, and peaceful canals. On this tour you’ll have a chance to cycle through this charming town, and to explore what life was like in China 600 years ago.
Setting out from Shanghai, you’ll enjoy a peaceful bus ride through the local country side until you reach a small village, where you’ll start cycling along the Taipuhe River, surrounded by golden rice paddies, colorful leaves, old bridges and charming country houses.
Once you arrive in Xitang, you’ll enjoy a rustic country meal and explore the ancient town. Yur guide will lead you through the narrow alleyways and explain the city’s history, pointing out the significance of each architectural detail and their significance according to Feng Shui. You’ll also visit the local museum of wine, buttons, bricks and see a demonstration of root carving.
You’ll stay overnight in a 600-year old Ming Dynasty building, and stroll through the quiet city illuminated by red lanterns, sip tea with the locals, and maybe even take a quiet river cruise.
The next morning you’ll explore the remainder of the city, engulfed in the early morning mist, and take tons of photos of the delicate architecture reflected in the canals. You’ll then tug into a country meal before heading back to Shanghai in the afternoon.
